Music is a big part of my everyday life in England. As I have a lot more free time because I am not working, I find I listen to music more often than I do at home. I also love to listen to music on long bus or train rides rather than scrolling social media on my phone. I almost always have my airpods with me while I’m walking around campus or in the city. As far as music in public goes, most of the pop music that is popular in America is also well known here. One odd thing I have noticed is that grocery stores don’t play music here like they do in America. Kind of a weird observation, but I didn’t know I would miss this until it was gone! I have also seen a musical performance from the Sussex musical theater society which was great. The cast performed the muscial Footloose and all of the lead singers were great. It is always so funny how British people do not have an accent while singing, and this really showed up in the Footloose performance. Some of the singers even added an American country accent to their voice which was very funny to hear as an American. As far as music and nightlife, many clubs play a lot of songs that are well known in America as well. This includes lots of 2000s hits and pop songs from the radio. However, there are a few club songs that I have never heard before and seem to be only popular with a British audience. Another fun thing the clubs do here is theme nights where they will play music from a certain era or style.

Here is a pictures of my friend and I at the Footloose musical!
