Hi everyone,

In this post I'm going to talk about living on campus at the University of Sussex. I hope you will find it helpful if you are considering studying here :)

Accommodation for international students at the University of Sussex is almost entirely on-campus. The University of Sussex contacts students a few months prior to arrival with a link to the housing portal. When I did this, we were not able to choose which exact accommodation we wanted, but rather we had to “rank” our top choices. The housing options were broken down into three categories based on prices. I highly suggest familiarizing yourself with housing options and prices before the university contacts you so that as soon as they do you are ready to make your selection. This is important because housing is on a first-come first-serve basis and they are not able to 100% guarantee housing for international students. The University of Sussex also offers off-campus housing which you can also rank as one of your options. I know one other study abroad student who lives in off-campus university housing in a 1 bedroom studio apartment in Brighton. Personally, I wanted to be on campus, and luckily I got my first choice of housing. I am living in the Brighthelm buildings which are a townhouse style with 5 roommates (or flatmates as they are called here), a communal kitchen/living area, and 2 shared bathrooms. We all have our own bedroom with a sink as well. So far, I am really happy with my accommodation. All of my roommates are also international students which is nice because we all moved in at the same time. I also got quite lucky because our building is newly renovated and comes with our own washer and dryer. Overall, I am very happy to be living on campus. It is very convenient for school and most study abroad students also live here which makes it easy to meet up and hang out with people.

Here is a link to a video walkthrough of my kitchen/dining area and the outside of the building.

Here are a few pictures of my room so you know what to expect. All bedrooms at Sussex come with a bed, nightstand, desk, desk chair, desk lamp, closet space, and trash can. Not all have a sink like mine does.
